The Best and Worst of 2009

Some trends I loved, while others I'm still recovering from.

Best

Red Lipstick

Universally flattering and classic.

Tights

Patterned tights are such a fun trend, and they can be dressed up or down to take your summer pieces through to the colder months.

Platforms

A nice change from ballet flats.

Worst

Harem pants

Just... ew.

Thigh-high boots

No one I know would ever be caught in such an ridiculous pair of boots.

Acid-wash jeans

Vanilla Ice rocked this look. Nuff' said.

Here's hoping 2010 brings some new and interesting trends to try!

Boxing Day!!!

I had the best Boxing Day ever yesterday!!! If you are American, you might not know much about boxing day. It's basically Canada's version of American Black Friday, where all the stores get rid of their old merchandise to make way for the spring fashions.

Here is what I bought:

I got these legging jeans at Sirens for only $10! I was really happy to find them, because I've been looking for a pair of black skinny jeans forever, plus you can wear them with almost anything.

I got this beret from American Apparel for $25. A bit pricey, but it looks nice with my new bangs.

I bought this top at Aritzia for $15. It's so comfortable!!!

I got this top at Aritzia for $25. It's also pretty comfy.

I got this scarf at Old Navy for only $3!!!!!!!!

I bought this turtleneck at Eddie Bauer for $15. I usually don't shop at Eddie Bauer, but I really needed a black turtleneck and that was the only place I could find one that I liked.

This cardigan, I bought at Reitmans for $20. I've been wanting a long-sleeved black cardigan for a while, and this one's perfect.

The sweater I got for Christmas was too small for me and totally not my color (it was pale orange), so this is the one I exchanged it for.

So, that's what I bought on Boxing Day. If you're wondering why everything is either grey or black (no I have not gone goth), it is because for Christmas, I got a book called What Would Audrey Do?. This book was kind of a biography/etiquette book about Audrey Hepburn, which talked a lot about how Audrey Hepburn was a style icon because she loved simple, classic, comfortable clothes, especially in black. So right now, I'm really into grey, black, and white, especially heather grey. It's hard to tell, but all the grey pieces of clothing are the same really beautiful shade of heather grey. This was definitely a good boxing day, since I got some really key wardrobe pieces that I can build on.

Christmas Day!!!

After all the waiting, it's finally here! and I got some really amazing gifts.

Among my favorites:

-A new straightener (I really needed one. I accidentally left a plastic comb on my old one and it melted, so whenever I tried to straighten my hair, it would get tangled in the little chunks of plastic stuck to the plates of the straightener)

-A big bar of Toblerone chocolate

-A gorgeous vintage gold and crystal brooch

-A new TNA cowichan sweater and TNA hoodie (both are too small so I will have to exchange them tomorrow, but it's the thought that counts)

-A box of soaps and bath bombs from Lush

-A Sephora gift card

I love Christmas so much, and I can't wait to see all my relatives when they come over for Christmas dinner! Merry Christmas!!!

REVIEW: Benefit Boi-ing

So yesterday I was in Sephora looking for a new concealer, when I came across the Benefit Cosmetics section. I've always really loved Benefit, so I decided to look for concealer there. After looking through all the foundations, mascaras, and fragrances, I finally found what I was looking for: the Benefit Boi-ing concealer. The Benefit Boi-ing concealer is described as an industrial- strength concealer, and it really is. This concealer doesn't look like much, but the results are amazing. I have a few blemishes and scars near my hairline and chin, and I didn't really expect to have them covered very well, but this concealer really surprised me. I just rubbed a little on, then dabbed around the edges, and it was like magic. You couldn't even see it anymore. It didn't even clump or feel heavy on my face. And it lasted all throughout the day without needing another application, which is important because I hate having to run to the bathroom every half hour to re-apply my concealer. This is by far the best concealer I've ever had and I know I won't be trying anything else anytime soon.

New Hair

Today, I got straight bangs. My hairdresser cut them kind of short, but I still like them. They remind me of the sixties.

Brittany Murphy

Tragically, Brittany Murphy died yesterday. She wasn't my favorite actress, but she was in Clueless, one of my favorite movies of all time. Whenever I watch that movie, I always think the best part about it is the clothes the characters wear. They're the clothes I wish I could wear, but can't find anywhere. It really is sad though, since she was only 32 years old and she died of a supposed heart attack.

New Boots

This is what I wore today. I got the sweater second hand yesterday and I really love it. It's actually a men's sweater so it's pretty over sized and cozy. The boots are my favorite part of the outfit, though. I was downtown at Urban Outfitters and loved them as soon as I saw them. They look like they're from the Victoria era, which is a style I've really been into lately.

Sweater- Bedo Homme
Belt- thrifted
Leggings- Talula

Christmas Gifts

As always, I'm leaving my Christmas shopping to the last minute. I went shopping with a friend this past weekend and picked up the following things:

- New mascara and OPI nail polish for one of my friends
- New skull Candy ear buds for another one of my friends
- Mixed box of gourmet chocolates for my dad
- New fleece pajama pants for my sister

I still need gifts for my Mom and the rest of my friends. I really can't believe I've left my shopping until the last minute again.
